Youtube Video of the Day 1-28-2010 (LP2)

I’ve noticed that my “Youtube Video of the Day” series, more or less, follows two trends in just what gets posted. The first is that the video in question is either something I’m more than excited about…or that I never want to see the light of day. The second, certainly as of late, is that the video has something to do with Mass Effect 2. I can safely say that I will not be shilling Bioware’s space opera masterpiece in this post. Aside from right there. I hope. No promises.

Video games, just like virtually any other topic of culture, is rife with the potential for comedy. However, like any other topic, it’s also fraught with “easy button” options that will easily produce a joke…just not necessairly a funny one. For those “outside” gaming, these frequently surround the gamer stereotype of the pimply sex-less nerd who is forced to live these carnal desires vicariously through his games.

Youtube Video of the Day 1-15-2010 (Star Trek Online)

Like I said, the inevitable result of all of this discussion is the same; consoles just don’t get access to certain games…even though that goes both ways, obviously. And, as one might expect, one of those PC-exclusive titles which has me green with envy is the subject of today’s “Youtube Video of the Day.” Star Trek Online looks great, with a bountiful color palette put to extensive use with the game’s varied wildlife, creatures, planets, starships, etc.

Youtube Video of the Day 1-5-10 (ME 2 Cast)

Okay, I’m about to break one of my semi-cardinal rules for this site, trying to not feature the same thing excessively. That being said, Mass Effect 2 has the illustrious reputation of being my first game to get two “Youtube Video of the Day” segments dedicated to it.

Now, most of the recent trailers have been uncut/expanded/full-length/recut renditions of the same two minutes. You’re Shepard again, and you need a super-team. We get it.

Youtube Video of the Day 12-25-09 (PoP)

First off, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! And…if you don’t celebrate Christmas, please allow me to extend holiday greetings of the generic variety. If you celebrated Hanukkah, I missed you, (damn you moving holidays!) I’m sorry, and if you celebrate any of the lesser-known “let’s acknowledge this in addition to Christmas so we’re culturally sensitive” holidays, I hope/d those were/are enjoyable as well. If you celebrate nothing, be glad you aren’t visiting in-laws, worrying about buying the perfect gift, and being out on the roads in general.

Youtube Trailer of the Day 12-18-2009 (Red Dead)

But if you don’t like a sub-section of society filled with “creative-yet quite obscene” name calling, drinking poorly-distilled whiskey from gallon jugs previously utilized as makeshift chamber pots, and restaurant floors coated in shell casings instead of peanuts, you probably hate America. Or the possibility of living past the age of 35.

Youtube Video Of The Day 12-15-2009 (ME 2)

As the launch date for Mass Effect 2 looms closer and closer, Bioware slowly begins lowering the media floodgates, hoping to ensnare us in their galaxy-spanning adventure of epic-ness. Simply put, in the handful of weeks left before Mass Effect 2 shows up on January 26th, expect to start seeing more trailers, 30 second TV spots, and ads plastered all over our favorite “nerdy” websites. If there’s one thing us gamers love just as much as video games, it’s the Internet. Proven fact. I think.

Youtube Video of the Day 12-6-09 (Super Meat Boy)

Super Meat Boy, following in the “first, a flash game, now a console title” footsteps of Alien Hominid, looks to be a “frustrating, yet fun” platformer.

Youtube Video of the Day 11-28-09 (Torchlight)

It’s not often that I get “PC envy.” After spending several years as a youth attempting to understand graphics card requirements, buying RAM, and tweaking visual settings over and over again until my game’s framerate no longer resembled a shoddily constructed flipbook, I got out of that industry. See Danny Glover’s oft repeated catchphrase of the Lethal Weapon films, if you want my succinct “take” on PC gaming.

Youtube Video of the Day 11/9/09 (Modern Warfare 2)

There’s no denying that I’ve spent several of the past “Youtube Video of the Day” segments talking about Mega64, discussing Mega64, and generally doing everything short of performing heinous and unspeakable sexual favors towards the members of Mega64.
